As the bearer of an image, necessarily the symbol of identity and power of an individual, a group or an institution, the seal was in itself a vehicle for artistic creation, supported in iconographical formulas and rigorous emblematic. They were easily recognizable symbols that conferred a precise idea of society and its hierarchy, as well as of the roles each one had to play (MORUJÃO, SARAIVA, 2014).
In this way we have established the indispensable liaison between this project and other initiatives dedicated to the Portuguese medieval secular clergy, also promoted by the Centro de Estudos de História Religiosa [Centre for Religious History Studies], and that have also relied on the collaboration and direct participation of Maria do Rosário Barbosa Morujão and Anísio Miguel de Sousa Saraiva, researchers that integrate the Sigillvm team.
